March 11, 2023 Many work campers have arrived here at Yonder over the past week while Luke has been away in Massachusetts doing projects with Caroline’s Cannabis. March 5, 2023 Mud season is just about upon us as our weather has shifted from cold snow storms to warm days of melting over the past week. This all brings us to what I hear is called mud season. Wikipedia says that this term is usually used most commonly in the Great Lakes region and in northern New England, but I don’t recall hearing it often in Massachusetts. February 25, 2023 John Wesley Powell began exploring the Colorado River and canyons on the staircase in 1869. Prior to his expedition, most white explorers who came to this area regarded the canyons as unimpressive geological formations that stood in the way of easy travel through the area. February 18, 2023 Happy belated Valentine’s Day y’all. I started this week by making homemade Valentine’s Day cards one afternoon with a woman who lives in town and loves to craft. My friend Sara and I went over to her house where she had stickers, cloth, beads, glitter, magazines to cut up, and colored card stock. She showed us some that she had made for ideas and inspiration and we got to work. We made some to send to family and some for local friends. February 10, 2023 So I actually don’t have any stories involving blood this week, but there sure is mud. Spring is coming soon and we are all getting excited about getting outside more. There’s a buzzing energy lately when I go into the Visitor Center to volunteer as the rangers talk about hikes or projects that they have planned. February 3, 2023 Well, it’s still winter, but temps have gone above freezing a few times so some of the snow here has been melting and we are seeing more people out and about exploring the monument over the past week. Utah National Parks in Winter

January 28, 2023 The winter adventures continued this week as we took Luke’s mother Lynn all around southern Utah and to the National parks. It has continued to be snowy and cold for the rest of her time visiting so we found things to do in the car and took walks on paved and plowed roads. We took a ride through Best Friend’s Animal Sanctuary in Kanab and had a nice lunch at a Cuban restaurant. January 21, 2023 Well Luke turned 40 yesterday and we celebrated his latest trip around the sun. Luke’s mother Lynn has been visiting for the past week and so has very snowy weather. We have been challenged with trying to find sights to show her and activities to do that she will enjoy. It is still beautiful out here when it’s covered in snow, but you cannot see all of the colors of the landscape with the snow on everything and hiking is a bit challenging as some places are slippery or the snow is too deep for her hiking boots. Exploring the Neighborhood

January 14, 2023 Thankfully, I have managed to escape my little whiny slump for now and my outlook and attitude has been brighter and more positive. I started walking nearly every day. This may have done the trick. I’ve mostly been walking around the neighborhood so far and find it fascinating the things I notice when on foot vs. just driving by. I brought the camera one day, I also brought a bag and gloves so I could pick up trash though I don’t do this every time.
